Colloquially known as a "break glass" point, manual call points allow building occupants to signal that a fire or other emergency exists within the building. MCPs are connected to a central fire alarm control panel that can set of the alarm sounders in the building.

The latest European Standard, EN 54, manual call points feature the house flame symbol and the breakable glass section is covered with plastic on the printed side.
